Why Our Fifth Investment Was In A Dental Practice

We (Harlem Capital Partners) are pleased to announce our fifth investment in Best Dental, a Harlem-based dental practice spearheaded by an Indian-American CEO and former Corporate Finance Strategist.

Investing in a dental practice is certainly a departure from what typical venture firms are known to do; placing bets almost exclusively on high-growth scalable technology companies. At Harlem Capital, however, investing in dynamic small businesses is not only in direct alignment with our vision and fund strategy — it is imperative to our success as a diversity-focused fund. The early-stage businesses that are not of scale for private equity or growing at high rates for venture capital have been underserved for too long.

As an organization fiercely committed to our vision of balancing the demographics in entrepreneurship — especially amongst entrepreneurs in the early stage — we will meet diverse founders where they are.

And since the data suggests that the majority of diverse entrepreneurs are starting small businesses, our investment portfolio proactively includes them (in addition to high-growth potential companies) in attempts to make the biggest impact on our communities as possible.

Ultimately, when more diverse perspectives are at the table, more carefully thought-through products and services are created for everyday people.

Our investment in the Best Dental team is an excellent example of our strategy. The CEO is a seasoned operator passionate about Healthcare in urban communities. He has successfully applied his expertise and sophistication to operate a community-conscious dental facility for the community of Harlem.
